India’s 72nd Independence Day – 15th August, 2018, India will celebrate its 72nd Independence Day! Unlike every year, this will be almost an extended weekend for many. Isn’t it? Many of you have booked your tickets & planned your travel itinerary. A few of you have planned to go for a movie-marathon- maybe patriotic movies to celebrate the spirit of Independence. And, a few will change their Facebook, Whatsapp & Instagram profile to our tricolor flag to show their love & pride for our mother country- India.
Well, maybe it’s a sweet way to celebrate the spirit of Independence Day and value the sacrifice of our freedom fighters. However, we feel that you can contribute & participate actively to celebrate this day of pride & joy and feel the spirit of ‘Being an Indian’!
Wanna know, how? In this blog, we will share 5 different ways to celebrate the spirit of Independence in a positive & unique way. Before I start, here is one of our favorite & powerful quotes on Independence by a Freedom fighter- Ramprasad Bismil!
Here you go!
1. Read India’s Declaration of Independence or Purna Swaraj
In December, 1929, the congress passed the Poorna Swaraj Resolution. Later, after a month on 26th January, 1930, Declaration of Independence was established.
The Draft of Poorna Swaraj Resolution was done by Jawaharlal Lal Nehru, whereas the “Declaration of Independence” pledge was drafted by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930. This declaration of Independence expresses the pain & trauma, the people of India faced under the rule of Britishers. Deprived of rights & privileges, the citizens of India suffered a great deal and got exploited economically, politically, culturally, and spiritually.
You can get an online copy easily to read it. Check it out: Declaration Project
2. Conduct a Community Gathering
Meet your people, neighbors and nearby locals to share, connect and develop belongingness. Developing a close knit with people around you is highly important, it not only creates harmony among each other, but also, ensure a better tomorrow for our kids who experience togetherness & love within the people around them.
3. Thank to a Veteran
What could be a better way to celebrate independence than thanking a Veteran for their services & sacrifice for the betterment of the society.
4. Make an Independence Resolution
Remember, Independence came at a high cost. Many died in this fight for freedom and many sacrificed their youth & family to wave an Indian flag, under the sky of independent India.
Don’t take this independence for granted. Instead, make a small independence resolution. Even your small contribution towards building the nation could potentially bring a huge ripple and change the course of direction in future. Do a small act of love & care- plant a tree, clean your surrounding, stop using plastic or help a needy. A small act of responsibility has a huge potential.
5. Read a Book on Indian History
Spend some time to know the history of India. Read a good book, authored by an Indian to take a dive on Indian history. You can never understand India in a better way, unless you know its history, culture, people and struggles. You can get an online copy to enrich your knowledge on the Indian History. We would suggest you to explore- ‘Discovery of India’ by Jawaharlal Nehru, or ‘A Corner Of A Foreign Field’ by Ramachandra Guha. You can also look for other books on Indian history by other authors.
Last but not the least…
6. Salute the Indian Flag
